Home Moravian Church, as it is now called, was the first in Salem,
established on November 3,
1771, five years after the f town was founded. The
congregation completed
the upgrade to a brick
sanctuary in 1800. Home
Moravian once acted as a
town hall, where all major
decisions, building plans,
and purchases were made.
During the War, it never
wavered when it came to
the needs of its citizens.
As men left Salem to join
the Confederate cause,
the Home Church made
sure to care for both
Salem’s soldiers and their families.
Their relief efforts were vital, often providing Salem’s residents with much needed money and food, always keeping its
doors open for prayer and council. This year, Home Moravian
celebrates 104 years in Salem and it aims to continue its service as
a place of worship and comfort for the town.
