L’Istituto Burgo è ad oggi una delle maggiori scuole italiane di moda,
con sedi dislocate nel mondo, all’interno del quale la filosofia è quella
dell’insegnamento del lavoro sartoriale vero, fatto a mano, partendo
dalla realizzazione del cartamodello.
Il suo fondatore, l’editore Fernando Burgo, ci accoglie nel suo studio
dove il tempo sembra non essere passato. Dove i racconti di un viag-
gio, iniziato quasi sessant’anni fa per amore di una professione, s’in-
trecciano con le foto che bloccano nel tempo personaggi famosi, stili-
sti di grido e sfilate di alta moda.
Un racconto coinvolgente che ci porta ad amare ancora di più la vera
sartoria italiana.
Nel 1961 nasce l’istituto Burgo, qual è la filosofia che lo accompagna?
Noi ospitiamo studenti non solo italiani ma proveniente anche dal-
l’estero, la nostra è la filosofia della diffusione e della realizzazione del
vero prodotto moda Made in Italy.
A diciotto anni m’innamorai di questo lavoro.
Nel 1961, anni in cui le signorine in età da marito facevano corsi di
economia domestica, per non arrivare al giorno del matrimonio igna-
re della gestione della casa, iniziai a realizzare corsi affiancato dalle
suore all’interno dell’oratorio.
Non era come adesso, una comunicazione facile. Dovevi girare i
paesi e proporre cose che per quegli anni erano innovativi.
The Istituto Burgo is today one of the major Italian fashion schools,
with locations throughout the world. Its philosophy consists in
teaching true, handmade tailoring work, starting from the
realization of the paper pattern.
Its founder, the editor Fernando Burgo, greets us in his studio
where time seems not to have passed. Where the stories of a
journey, started almost sixty years ago for the love of a profession,
are intertwined with the photos that eternalize famous people, hip
designers and high fashion runway shows.
It is an engaging story, leading us to love even more the true Italian
tailoring.
In 1961 the Burgo institute was born, what is the philosophy
that accompanies it?
We host students not only Italian but also from abroad. Ours is
the philosophy of the diffusion and realization of the true Made in
Italy fashion product. At eighteen I fell in love with this work. In
1961, when the young ladies of marriageable age attended classes
of domestic economy so they would be prepared prior to their
wedding, I began to run courses together with nuns inside the
oratory. It was not like today, where communication is made easy.
You had to tour through towns and propose things that were
innovative in those years.
