DUCHELE NDONGO MELI HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AS A CARLOS ROSARIO STUDENT INFLUENCED YOUR BELIEF IN THE VALUE OF EDUCATION? Carlos Rosario is a public charter school where there are many students from different parts of the world. They take the time to come to school because they value education. Since my first day of school here, I have been posi- tively impacted in many ways. First of all, when you arrive at Carlos Rosario, no matter your English level, there is a class that is right for you. For example, when I came to Carlos Rosario, I didn’t understand almost anything in English. But with the help of my teachers and homework, I improved. Also, when I didn’t understand what my teachers said, they repeated themselves and were so patient. Commu- nicating in English took a lot of time because DUCHELE NDONGO MELI NURSE AIDE TRAINING BLACK HISTORY MONTH ESSAY CONTEST WINNER TEACHER: LAUREL ANDERSON I didn’t want to make mistakes. I had to think first before responding. Secondly, through Carlos Rosario, I came to understand that educa- tion knows no age. Every- one, adults included, has the right to learn. Many adults at Carlos Rosario did not have the chance to learn the basics in their country. At Carlos Rosario, they can start with the alpha- bet, numbers, and other basic concepts. These adults come to school and arrive on time. They can still do great things... this is amazing! As a younger person, I am inspired when I see older people come to school despite many obstacles. If these parents have the devotion to go to school and do homework, then it pushes me to achieve and grow. In addition, this school is very diverse, many countries, religions, cultures, and classes. In the beginning, I thought there were only English classes but later I real- ized there were other programs too. In addition to improving my English, I am training to be a Nursing Assistant. Carlos Rosario also offers Culi- nary Arts, Computers, and guidance for those who want to continue higher education. Finally, education is for everyone. Anybody who desires to study can always do it and achieve their goals. This is what Carlos Rosario School has impressed upon me. 51
