GLORY PEREZ RIVAS ESL 8 UNTITLED My name is Glory Perez Rivas. I have been here in the United States for 7 months and this is my first semes- ter at Carlos Rosario. I am from Venezuela, a beautiful country in the north of South America. Like many Venezue- lan immigrants, I came to this country seeking protection in view of the cruel persecution suffered by those who oppose the Venezuelan government, a dicta- torial power that has destroyed us econom- ically, politically, and even emotionally. I do not really know many people in the 34 country and am happy to have the opportu- nity to meet new friends from different places at Carlos Rosario. Curiously, on Friday, January 26, when we left school, by coinci- dence, 4 Venezuelans were sitting on the same bus that led to Colum- bia Heights. We did not know each other and we were happy to meet. That day we shared a Venezuelan cookie and a photo that would be left in our memories. Actually, immigrants in Washington DC are blessed at Carlos Rosario. I am glad espe- cially to have arrived at this school. I never imagined that I could receive so much support and opportunity in one place. I think that this school prepares you for life; it gives you the tools to develop your- self in a society that undoubtedly needs the work and knowledge of many people. Thank you, Carlos Rosario, for being part of our present, for teaching and guiding us in the development of our future. Definitely, it is a place that helps you achieve your dreams.
