Culinary Arts The Gift That Keeps on Giving by Imani Abdul-Rahman As I reflect on the past two years of being a culinary arts student at Carlos Rosario, I can honestly say that the knowledge I’ve gained has catapulted me to heights that I never thought were attainable. I’ve met some amazing people, prepared and presented dishes from around the world & learned to have faith within myself and trust my abilities. However, the most profound thing I’ve learned is that fear is something that will cripple you and that fear is a self-inflicted state of mind. Now that I know for certain that fear isn’t real, I no longer set limitations on myself or my success. Through positive thinking and daily affirmation’s I’m aware that my true gift from God which is cooking, can take me places that I never thought was in my grasp. The person that opened my eyes to what fear really was is my amazingly talented teacher, Chef Jason Story. Chef Jason not only taught me to be a professional chef, he’s taught me to be a more well-rounded individual which has strengthened me in all aspects of my life! Unbeknownst to him, a lot of his sound advice and encouragement kept me from crumbling in my personal life. For that, I’m forever grateful. 44
