ESL 6 thru Vocabulary Class Black History Month Essay Contest Excerpt from “Leading By Example 2nd Place In Our Community” By Geovanny Vicente Romero, Vocabulary ...As a way to avoid being discriminated against, the Latino community ought to make its voice heard and make a lasting impact on American society at the same time. On the other hand, Latinos need to keep their head down and work hard, never giving up because they need to keep on getting ahead. Today, it is well-known that Hispanics have become the largest minority group of America. Hispanics should not be suffering from workplace discrimination or other kinds of mistreatment because they are contributing to make America a greater place. Finally, I would like to be part of a community project that makes an important effort to keep Latinos safe and out of jail. When it comes to discrimination, the group of society that is the target population should show the world how trustworthy they are. We can put an end to discrimination just by standing out as a hardworking community that is raising its children to make a meaningful impact on this great country. And more importantly, we need to feel proud of ourselves, our roots, and our culture wherever we go. Besides, if we really want to make a change we need to speak out and work hard in order to make our children proud of their culture. The key to achieving a society without discrimination is leading by example. I have done many favors to members of my community like supply English translation services in person or over the phone. Also, I have helped many others to optimize the uses and functions of their technology devices. Moreover, I have served as an advocate for people to prevent of leaving school and I have inspired others to take the first step to register in school. Finally, I still watch some of my neighbors outside in their daily activities but I think the true meaning of making a difference is inside us embedded in our inner core and from there we start making a difference in our community.
