I’m Perrine Kolisso. I was born in Central African Republic. The capital is Bangui, it is little but
pretty country. In the USA, when a say I’m from C.A.R. some people are confused and ask me
for more information about my country because they don’t know it. In my country, French is the
first language and the second language is Sango.
In C.A.R., my husband and I own a public transportation company. I used to visit my mom
every weekend. I could go on vacation and visit other countries, but I couldn’t speak English, I
was sometimes nervous.
Today I’m the happiest in my family, because I can speak English a little bit. My country is
noisy but the USA is bigger and there are a lot of opportunities to make your dreams come true.

I am from La Vega, Dominican Republic. La Vega is a little town in my country. Our city is
very famous for our Carnaval. It is about 1 month and half long. My city has a lot of diverse
foods, but the two most typical are “La Bandera Dominicana" and "El Mangu.” La Bandera
Dominicana is white rice, beans, and meat. El Mangu is mashed green plantains. The typical
music is Merengue and Bachata.The capital city of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo.
When I was in my city, I used to go to school because I was child, and I couldn’t work. My
family used to meet different times of year to share some time and celebrate many special
days. I remember when I went to visit my family that lives in other cities, because I enjoyed my
vacation time with them.
I cannot compare my life in my city with my life here, because it is very different. When I lived
in my hometown, my life was more relaxed than it is here. I was younger, so I had less
problems than I have today. In conclusion, I really miss my country, but I am also very happy
with the opportunities that this country is offering me.
