ESL 4 When I Was In My Country By Maria Cabieses I’m from Lima, Peru. Lima is the capital. it’s very nice. If you might travel to Peru you have to visit La Plaza de Armas, the museums. The Peruvian food is delicious, you have to eat Ceviche, Arroz con Pollo, Jalea Mixta, and Papa a La Huancaina. When I lived in Peru, I used to eat breakfast in my sister’s house and I used to play volleyball with my friend every Sunday. I used to visit my friend every two weeks. When I lived in my country, I could play volleyball, but now I can’t play because I don’t have time. I could spend time with friends, but now I can’t however, I feel happy because I have my daughter and I like to play with her and I do things for her. I couldn’t speak two languages. But now I can. I like the USA, but the USA is colder than Lima. In Lima, the people are friendlier than some people in the USA. Lima’s hospitals are worse than the USA’s hospitals. By Glenda Calles When I was in my country El Salvador, I always ate pupusa, because the food in my country is very good and the places in my country are extraordinary. The beaches in my country are beautiful. My country El Salvador is very small, but my country has beautiful places, excellent food and the people are friendly. My country has a lot of good things. In my country, I used to eat dinner with my friends. I used to play soccer with my brother, and I used to cook with my mother. I used to watch TV every day. I used to visit my grandparents. I eat pupusas here, but it’s not the same as in my country. Now, I can’t cook with my mother because she is in El Salvador. I can’t watch TV every day, because I have to work. I can’t visit my grandparents, because they aren’t here. I can’t eat dinner with my friends every weekend, because I’m too busy. My country El Salvador is smaller than USA. El Salvador is hotter than United States. United States is richer than El Salvador. 18 In Our Own Words 2016
