GED E N G L ish Christmas in Mexico in Mexico is the most beautiful time of the year. When the month of December begins, we start with the plan of what we are going to do. The first thing that we do is the decoration of the piñatas. This takes almost two or three weeks to finish because we have to use special glue and wait a few days until they get dry. This process takes a couple of days. After that, we start with the whole decoration of the piñatas. Our Christmas takes almost three weeks of party. The first celebration is December 12. This day is very important for us because we celebrate our Virgin of Guadalupe’s birthday. For Catholic people this is a special day because we go to her house which is The Basilica of Guadalupe. In this place we sing the “mañanitas” and pray. After this day we start our Christmas preparation. On December 16th we have to have all our preparation. on this day we start going house by house until December 24th. This is the last day of the posadas. December 24th is our Christmas Eve (Noche Buena). On that night we share with friends, family and neighbors. We break piñatas. We have a house where we can do all of this. All day and all night we use fireworks. This day is the most special day of the year. I think everyone is waiting for these days, December 16th through December 24th. This is the way Mexicans celebrate Christmas. Christmas 62 IN OUR OWN WORDS BY Carolina Miguel
