Process of
Creating
T
he Carlos Rosario School’s literary-arts magazine is an
original collection of adult basic education students’ writing
and art. This collection came out of an initiative to increase
student reading and access to high-interest reading material in
2008. Our annual publication is produced by a student editor or
editors, trained on Adobe InDesign CS6, with teacher support.
All students are encouraged to submit their best work throught a
school-wide multilingual campaign.
T
hrough rounds of review, the student editors select which
submissions to include in the magazine and collaborate
with the teacher advisor on all aspects of the magazine’s
production: layout, design, promotion and distribution. We are
proud of In Our Own Words for its contribution to the community
of adult learners and for capturing the multicultural, adult learner
perspective and spirit.
