Level 6 My First Time at Work by Girma Tiruneh W hen I was a new employee at work in a private company around the Chinatown area, I was working as a cashier there. But I didn’t know the private company’s policy very well. While I was getting busy with customers who were standing in line, I was taking a personal call with my older brother, paying more attention to him. At this time, my head manager came and got mad at me. He was very serious. I was also embarrassed. Moments later, he called me to see him at his office. He also gave me an oral warning. After that, I understood everything. It was my fault. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any chance to respond to him. In fact I can’t forget that was my first time, and I haven’t made a mistake again. Teacher: McElroy, EVE My Elementary School Days by Wendy Cabrera W hen I was a little girl in the Dominican Republic, my days in elementary school were the most beautiful days in my life. I started school older than usual. The age to start the school in my country is 6 years, but I started at 10 because my town didn’t have many schools for all the little kids. When I was in the school, I enjoyed playing with my friends in the yard. I used to put covers on my new books because then my second brother could use them when he would be in my grade. I used to bring candies and fruit to my school because my mom did not give me money to buy them in the school. When I took my first test, I was very scared, but I got an 80. My days in elementary school were the most enjoyable days in my life, and I will remember them forever. Teacher: McElroy, EVE 30
