Computer Support Specialist 200 the cat who never returned Most children have cats. While not every adult loves cats, certainly all children love them. Why is there such a deep connection between cats and children? They can create a healthy and friendly relationship.  They are both spiritually and behaviorally similar. There is no doubt they were created to be great companions to each other. Rodrigo was an elementary school student and had just turned eight years old when fortunes led him to find a baby cat, which he decided to adopt.  That was a decision he would clearly never regret. After some months he would discover the affection and unconditional love that would keep them together emotionally forever. This cute baby cat was given the name of Minino. He was raised to be the best friend and best companion of the family. All the vivid events they experienced together marked this child’s life.    Many days had passed since his late cat, Courageous, traveled from this world without return.  The need to adopt a new member to the family was frankly a dream that someday would need to be fulfilled. A quiet and sunny evening had barely begun to disappear when an undernourished, weak and flea-ridden baby cat walked down the street. A neighbor probably neglected him or he lost his way back home. Whatever the reason, this cat, barely surviving, looked at Rodrigo, seeing perhaps the help he needed. Rodrigo promptly grabbed him and took him home. Rodrigo, charismatic, loving, affectionate and   a self-acclaimed pet lover,  was  extremely happy that he found this cat and for the good news he would  deliver to his mother. Nobody would reject a lovely pet that was in such a deplorable condition.   He wanted to be surrounded by the most precious pets he could manage to host, obviously only with the permission of his disciplined mother.   “Mom, I found this cute puss and he can barely walk,” he pleaded to her. He was determined to adopt the new friend. His mother immediately decided that adopting was the wron g decision, wanting no more pets at home. She put it back on the street. The next day Minino was brought home once again, and this time Rodrigo’s grandmother also opposed the idea of adopting the cat. Rodrigo’s determination led him to challenge his grandma twice that day.  It seemed everybody wanted not to foster this puss. The next day, Rodrigo would speak to his father and ask for him to support his case, confident that the barrier could be overcome. He was right. Finally, Minino was officially adopted by the family. Minino was an exceedingly playful, strong and elegant pet.  Every day he enjoyed playing with Rodrigo. Mice toys and feathers were his favorite pastime activities. After a couple months he gained weight and his fur became a bright gold. Every evening coming home from school was a pleasant experience for Rodrigo, who was expecting to see his purring cat, feed him and spend a lot of time playing in the living room. On one occasion the living room floor was waxed and to the family’s enjoyment that day they saw Minino endlessly sliding around the floor trying to catch the toy mice. Laughing was never better than these days. How satisfying it was for this child to have not only the best companion, but also an intimate language that only cats and children seem to understand. Who can resist to a purring cat? 88
