Vocabulary Immigrant’s Life in the U.S. Living as an immigrant in the U.S is complex for many people, because it is hard to assimilate to the American culture for us. It is frustrating to be far away from our family. Immigrants miss a lot of things about our native countries. Also we have many obstacles to being happy in this country such as status, language and job opportunities. But everyone has different experiences. It depends how each person lives here. There are three different stories about an immigrant’s life. For example, Mamacita’s story tells how she didn’t have a good experience in this country, and she refused to assimilate to the American culture. Grandfather’s experience was totally different than Mamacita’s story; he enjoyed it very much anywhere he was. Also my own experience has been acceptable. I can’t complain about it. I feel happy with everything I have gotten in this country. Mamacita’s experience as an immigrant in the U.S. was so unpleasant, because she did n’t want to assimilate the American culture. She only thought about her own country, because she missed her flamboyant life that she lived there. Also she missed her pink house and family that she left in Mexico. Mamacita felt so uncomfortable in the U.S. because she couldn’t speak English and she refused to learn it. She didn’t go out from her apartment, because she was afraid to be outside. For that reason she was desperate and she wanted to go back to her country. Grandfather’s experience in the U.S. was so different than Mamacita’s experience. His journey in this country was an amazing experience for him. He explored many places in this country and he enjoyed each experience. He encountered many people with 84
