M E x t ra C u r r i c u l a r - C o n v e r s t a i o n a n d S p e a k i n g ew Years N For the New Years when the holiday comes there is a lot to prepare. People buy new clothes for the family, clean the house, and make bread and food. Usually the food is prepared on the fire and the men get the wood and get ready to burn it. When it’s ready they walk through the house and say a blessing: “Bad things go out and good things come in the house.” Outside the house everyone follows and the fire begins. People jump over the fire and say: “Lets’ stay together... until next year. Best wishes to everyone for good things.” People sing and dance. They drink and eat and the next day they prepare the food: chicken, sauce, injera bread and vegetables and the families gather to celebrate. Aster Tadesse Teacher: Ruth Ticktin, AM 47
