Yes, We Can! By Hui Li Neeand AM Level 8 Everything might happen in your life. What will you do when you feel sad or unsuccessful? Do you prefer to give up directly or look to other people as examples? As for me, I would like to look to Ludwig van Beethoven when I face an obstacle. As we know, Beethoven is a famous composer and pianist. When he was a child, he was forced to play piano very hard by his father. Even though he had a hard time practicing in his childhood, he was still interested in music. Unfortunately, he was deaf when he was successful. It was a big frustration for him in his life. However, he didn’t give up his dream and overcame the obstacle. He insisted on composing. Finally, he made a lot of significant musical works for the world. In 1997, I planned to pass an exam so I could enter a university to get a master’s degree. I had studied day and night for one year, but I failed. I was very disappointed and gave up trying for a long time. The career of Beethoven influenced me. For a musician, it is the most difficult problem that he lost his hearing, but I didn’t have a physical defect at all. So I began to study again. After trying three times, I passed the exam. Every time I recall my experience, I want to say, “Yes, we can. We can overcome every frustration that we meet. Yes, we can. We can achieve every goal that we make. Yes, we can. We can do every thing which we want to.” Background digital photography by Marta Guardado. 8
