In conclusion, Mr. Frederick Douglass, despite the worst life condition as slave, didn‟t resign himself. Even beaten, starved and treated like an animal. His mind was focused on liberty. The risks that he took could have been fatal for him, but his desire to be a free man was huge. In difficult situations, he found solutions. As little boy, he understood the importance of learning to read and write. To achieve his goal he used with determination diverse stratagems. What I learned from this book is that the condition of life does not determine our success but rather our determination. Panzo In this essay, I am comparing and contrasting two beautiful countries: the Republic of Angola and the United States of America. These countries are located in different parts of the world. I will be focusing on each country‟s culture, economy, and geography. Angola‟s official language is Portuguese. Angolans greet each other by saying “Ola, tudo bem?” In addition to Portuguese, 18 dialects are spoken. The most common are Kikongo, Fiotte, Ngangela, and Kimbundo. Many types of food are prepared and eaten without a lot of spice. Cassava and roasted peanuts, fofo and stew, calulu, and recois (or croquets) are popular dishes. The nation‟s favorite sports are fútbol (soccer), handball and capoeira. In 1998, the national fútbol team Primero de Agosto won an international title in Cairo. When families and friends come together they do many fun things such as listening to Semba music and dancing Kizomba. The national language of the United States is English. Americans greet each other by saying “Hello, how are you?” Although dialects are not common, a large amount of my friends at church also speak Spanish. In America, there is a diversity of food options because of the presence of immigrants from of all over the world. Pizza, hot dogs, and hamburgers are popular foods. Baseball, football, and hockey are common sports in the United States. However, basketball seems to be the most popular game. Last year, the Redeem Team won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing. Musically, America is known for the blues, jazz, rock and roll, country, and hip hop. Hip hop is also a popular dance style practiced by fans all over the world. The economy in Angola is based on many natural resources such as petroleum, oil, diamond, gold, and silver.
