Encouragement
By Su Qiong Kuang
We came to
America
hoping for a
better life
than we had
in our homeland. When I arrived in this
country, I could not understand English, so
I applied to be a Carlos Rosario student. I
was very lucky that became truth.
I still remember when I came to Carlos Rosario for the school interview. The
teacher could speak Chinese because she
had been in China with her husband. I told
her, “My English is very poor.” The teacher
told me, “In learning English, the most important thing is to open your mouth and

practice more and more. If you keep on
studying, you are sure to be able to speak very good English.” I answered, “I
will try my best.”
This semester is my first time at Carlos Rosario school. My first
teachers were Cristina and Ruth. They were good teachers. Now my
teacher is Lisa. She gives me a lot of help with my English. She also suggested that I learn how to use a computer. Before I didn‟t touch a computer, because I thought it was difficult for me. I‟m old. Lisa said, “A person is never too old to learn. My mother can use a computer.” Lisa always
gives us some encouragement and good ideas. I‟m very lucky to be in touch
with a great teacher. I believe that encouragement can go a long way.
“A person is
never too old to
learn.”
