“We’ll be hoping to hand out the guidelines
on Saturday, December 21 at 10am (at the
Alley), but closer to the day people can
check our Facebook page or website to see
the details,” says Chris.
“We are also in communication constantly
with Hal from the GCWA and I’m also the
surfers representative on the Currumbin
Estuary Dredging Group
Committee which also
has reps of boaties and
fishermen.
“I’ve been on that for
five years and every
year I say the sand has
to be pumped further
up than 4th Avenue (Palm Beach). It has to
go up to at least the surf club. Most of the
erosion is from the surf club through to the
11th Avenue groyne and that’s where the
sand needs to be deposited. But they’ve only
allocated $830,000 to dredge Currumbin and
Tallebudgera, and Tallebudgera is always
pumped first because it’s a tourist venue so
they take $500,000 out and Currumbin is left
with the $330,000, which is just not enough.
“They take out as much sand as they can, but
