“I was pumped to even get the wave in the first place, I was struggling to get
a decent one all morning. It was no crystal clear blue day but the chocolate
coloured water was pretty cool ... just breathtaking. Looking out I could see my
mate on the inside who didn’t make his wave - an amazing lip of water over
me and just a super long face out in front that looked like it wanted to eat me.”
On the big groyne rebuilding - “I think it’s going to be great, for one it will keep us
all happy as we will actually see politicians following up with their promises. Kirra
is a world class break that attracts attention world wide. The surf industry from
what I understand generates about $3.5 billion dollars a year here on the coast
and is the second biggest cash flow enterprise bar tourism ... I didn’t get to surf
Kirra prior to the groyne being removed, though I was lucky enough to ride my
first ever wave on a surfboard there in 1999 ... the groyne extension may just be
one of the missing links in bringing the break back to all its glory.”
