For years she’s been labelled ‘the ghost’, a mythical
wave of mechanical awesomeness, cloaked in the fading
memory of days gone by - the stuff of legend, no longer real.
One thing has remained the same - just mention her to any
weary-eyed local and you’ll see a spark, a little explosion
from within as they recount for themselves the moments
and frames that are burned in their minds.
There’s been a little bit of change in the air of late, whispers of a return, a
new hope for the jewel of point breaks and the Gold Coast’s most famed
wave. Kirra is slowly clawing her way back! Strong storms have spent the last
couple of years eroding much of the built up sand and offering a glimpse
of the treasure here and there. The prospect of the groyne extension is
slowly edging towards reality, the wave we once knew could soon be
back, and back with a vengeance - in fact she never left us, she’s been
there all along and like a diamond in the rough, she’s just waiting for the
right time to shed her coverings and reveal the inner beauty once more.
