REPORT OF MD 18 LEO CHAIR – LION STEVE HELWIG:
CC Newby called attention to a printed report in each file. Lion
Helwig was unable to attend the meeting.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! There has not been much activity to report
since November but with the 2014 Holiday season behind us we're
all gearing up again.
The 2015 MD18 LEO Gathering and Conference will be held at
our Georgia Lions Camp March 20-22. The theme will be
"Strengthen the LEO Pride". The packets will be sent to all
Georgia Leo clubs no later than the end of this month. DG's please
contact your respective Leo Chairs and work with them to
encourage your Leos to attend. As with past events we will have a
mix of fun and fellowship, work on projects to benefit our Camp,
and hold segments in keeping with this year's theme. We will hold
an MD18 LEO Council meeting and conduct elections for next
year's LEO Council. Please encourage your Leos to run for one of
the offices - it will make our multiple district stronger and it looks
REALLY good on a college application!
My fellow committee members and I will be contacting our clubs
regarding the various awards available to Leos/Leo clubs. One
club in each district is eligible to receive the highest award from
LCI, the Leo Club Excellence Award. I would like to see a
recipient for all four districts this year (has never before
happened). Clubs will need to send their applications to you and
your DC's for both of you to review and determine. The Leo of the
Year is the highest individual award a Leo can receive. Each
district may submit one application to the Leo Committee and
Council Chair to review and select. LCI must receive our selection
no later than April 1st so set your timetable accordingly.
The Georgia Leo Club Service Award is not a contest but
recognition of the efforts of each Georgia Leo club during the past
year. The criteria will be included with all the other awards from
the state, Lighthouse, Camp, and LCI. Most have a submission
deadline of April 30.
I will be working with the State Convention committee regarding
Leo participation in Tifton. Both the Leos and Lions have enjoyed
interacting at previous conventions and I'd like to see our
relationship grow even stronger. If our Leos are tomorrow's Lions and Lion leaders - we have a responsibility to guide and encourage
them to maximize their leadership potential and develop their
hearts for service!
