Supported by Variety Bash sponsor Seeley International, the coaches give students direct access to their broader community. Power of trust Gold Coast woman Maureen Burns has learned to swim thanks to assistance from FSG Australia’s Nerang Hub. Maureen, who has cerebral palsy, was afraid of the water, but FSG staff helped her overcome her fear so that she now enjoys group swimming every Tuesday at the Southport pools. June 2018 3 MS Walk and Fun Run Melbourne MS Walk + Fun Run participants will help raise funds for essential services and support for people with multiple sclerosis while the search for a cure continues. 18 World Continence Week World Continence Week is June 18 to 24 and the Continence Foundation of Australia will be using humour to overcome the stigma of incontinence. There will be events, talks, activities, displays and performances right across the country in the lead up to, as well as following, World Continence Week. 29 Minda and Phil Hoffmann Travel Rock Carnival The Minda and Phil Hoffmann Travel Rock Carnival is a fundraising gala event, with all proceeds helping to brighten the lives of South Australians with disability. The gala also celebrates Minda’s 120-year anniversary, taking a step back in time to the era of poodle skirts, saddle shoes, bowling shirts and letterman jackets. rockcarnival 29 World Scleroderma Day Scleroderma Australia will be celebrating World Scleroderma Day on June 29. The day is about raising awareness of this connective tissue autoimmune disease which affects up to 5000 Australians. www.sclerodermaaustralia. South Australia recently hosted the Special Olympics Australia National Games which ran from April 16 to 20. More than 1,000 sportsmen and women with an intellectual disability competed in 11 sports with the support of 900 dedicated volunteers – many of whom had travelled from interstate to help.
