intrigued me . To me , my cerebral palsy was a minor detail but I did genuinely wonder if it would be physically possible for me to BASE jump . Sean carefully reviewed my vast skydiving footage , and concluded I could attempt this feat with minimal risk . This was reassuring - until I was in Malaysia , atop the 421-metre KL Tower . It was too late to back out now . This was taking things to a new level and there was no backing out now .
Malaysia is a country that typically presents a challenge for a wheelchair user . I chose not to take my electric chair due to the fact I knew it would restrict my ability to move freely around the city , compared to giving me independence at home . I had a friend who was quite capable of pushing me and often where a footpath was impossible we literally walked on the roads among cars and mopeds . When travelling I don ’ t mind this but acknowledge for some wheelies this may present just as big a challenge as my BASE jump . I will say though some of my favourite travel destinations are not the most accessible due to the people I meet . Malaysia didn ’ t disappoint in this regard , and when I couldn ’ t take the most direct route there were many smiling faces and people willing to assist . What more could I want from travel ?
Some people will look at this adventure as incredibly stupid or insane , like my Mum for example ! Whilst base-jumping is not everyone ’ s ideal holiday activity it was the most unique experience I have ever had . Apart from my jump I mixed with a tightknit group of athletes that embraced me into their community . With high adrenaline sports we associate the word fear . The only fear the base-jumping community have is not living their lives to the maximum and living every second of their lives with purpose and meaning . I am excited to see where my next adventure will take me . I encourage all people to get out of their comfort zone and explore another culture or do something unique . What ’ s next ?
