COMPETENCE
data gathering. It is important to decide how much data is needed for what
level of decision and the time within which the decision should be made.
We can always correct a decision along the way but to do so we have to first
make the decision.
3. Lack of practice. The best way to make good decisions is to practice
taking decisions at every opportunity. Make mistakes and learn from them.
It is said that what we don’t use, we lose. If we tie our hand and stop using
it, we will soon lose it. All muscles are developed when used. Likewise, when
we practice and meditate our mind becomes stronger and enables better
decision making.
The success of any business or individual is based on intangibles like ideas,
innovation and creativity. All attributes of the mind. Unfortunately, in
schools, universities and businesses we are not taught how to manage our
own mind or self, to keep centered and calm. Every leader should spend
time in developing an understanding of self and the ability to manage her/
his mind and emotions. The best leaders are emotionally and mentally
strong. This is why I started Courageous Minds, to help train individuals to
become courageous leaders, who can inspire their teams and businesses to
greatness in these VUCA times.
Conclusion…Finally, the day of the summit came and I spoke to a large
gathering and it seemed that the message was clearly delivered. There
was appreciation for the talk but more importantly for me, in all this was a
moment of reflection. A moment in which a fleeting thought whispered in
my ears, “We did not make the decision to be born, but we sure can make
the decision to be great by developing a courageous mind-a mind that is
decisive.”
