Afford and WALCA merge

Sydney disability service provider the Australian Foundation for Disability ( Afford ) has merged with southeastern Sydney based provider , the Wellness and Leisure Centre for Adults ( WALCA ).

Afford CEO Steven Herald said under the National Disability Insurance Scheme , many disability service providers have found it difficult to remain financially viable and the merger allows whole-of-life disability supports to continue to be delivered to the Bexley community .
“ Understanding the new funding model and creating new person-centred programs within the modernised , competitive disability sector , has meant that some smaller organisations cannot sustain their operations . WALCA , among others , was faced with the prospect of having to close down its service ,” Mr Herald said .
