Best Week of the Year

One evening during the spring of 2016,
the family dinner conversation about
the day’s events shifted toward junior
national show planning. I listened to
chatter about what calves my kids
wanted to enter and the best way to
make the trip to Lexington, Kentucky.
Thinking to myself the whole time about
how long of a drive that was going to
be, I decided to throw out a radical idea.
I interrupted with a suggestion that we
certainly didn’t HAVE to participate in
the junior national show that year and
maybe we should consider using the
money we could save from attending
the show to go on a REAL VACATION…
to the beach, Disney World or even
Hawaii! My suggestion was met with
blank stares. Finally, Ashlyn broke the
silence and declared on behalf of her
siblings, “Are you crazy? We wouldn’t
miss junior nationals for the world. It’s
the best week of the whole year!”

There you have it. Why do all of us
work so hard, travel so many miles, and
spend so much money to attend the
NALJA show every year? Because our
kids say it’s the best week of the year.
They wouldn’t miss the chance to show
cattle with some of their favorite friends
from all over the country. The skills they
learn in the show ring and through the
satellite and team events, along with
the lifelong friendships they develop,
(staying up half the nights playing cards
at the host hotel), are truly priceless.
The Limi Boosters is proud to support
our young people and do all we can
to make sure each NALJA member
