Congratulations to the Award Winners
The North American Limousin Foundation would like to recognize the award winners for the 2017 year . NALF has four award programs to recognize individuals or companies who promote the Limousin breed . These awards are Marketing Booster of the Year , Commercial Producer of the Year , NALF Promoter of the Year , and the Dale Runnion Breeders Choice Award .
This year , four great programs were recognized for their efforts to further advance the Limousin breed through their individual endeavors . Linhart Limousin , Leon , Iowa , received the Marketing Booster of the Year award . Receiving the Commercial Producer of the Year was David and Jennifer Phillips of the Rafter DP Ranch , Geary , Okla . Ochsner Limousin , Kersey , Colo ., was named the NALF Promoter of the year . The Dale Runnion Breeders Choice award winner was Wulf Cattle , Morris , Minn . These awards were presented on Monday , January 8 , 2018 at the Limousin banquet during the NWSS and Annual Limousin Convention in Denver , Colo .
Marketing Booster of the Year
The Marketing Booster of the Year award is open to anyone who has produced Limousin seedstock and has maintained an active NALF membership for at least three years .
Linhart Limousin is a family operation located just north of Leon , Iowa , in the heart of southern Iowa ’ s cow-calf country . Their Limousin and Lim-Flex operation started in 1979 and has grown to about 800 producing females . Over the years , they ’ ve taken great pride in producing quality the right way . Linhart cattle are raised on fescue pastures . This means that they have the resistance and ability to work in the hardest of conditions . Cattle are weaned at 5 1 / 2 to 7 months and are put on a high fiber diet . After they are a year old , they will be raised on corn to maintain growth rate and most bulls will have a 205-day weight of 675 to 800 and yearling weights in excess of 1200 pounds .
Commercial Producer of the Year
David and Jennifer Phillips run a diversified farming and ranching operation in Geary , Oklahoma . The Phillips run around 2,000 commercial cows of mostly Angus and Lim-Flex genetics with some Brangus and Charolais-cross cows . They have used Limousin and Lim-Flex genetics for over 20 years .
As a spring-calving operation , they run their calves on wheat after weaning each fall and sell them as yearlings in the spring . Phillips ’ yearlings are highly sought after each spring by repeat customers who are eager to get the all-natural yearlings with the growth and muscling that the Limousin genetics provide .
