“ Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail ”

We have all heard it : “ Failing to plan is planning to fail .” The wise sage Benjamin Franklin was quoted as having said it many years ago . The quote is timeless , but most times forgotten .
If you talk to the owners or managers of successful seedstock operations they will tell you that they begin planning for next year ’ s sale as soon as the current year ’ s sale is complete . They identify
a year in advance a pool of animals from which they will select their next offering .
From this pool , they manage these animals with the end goal in mind . Many times only a percentage of the selected bulls or females make it into the next sale . The small breeder , who does not have enough numbers for their own production sale , should employ the same tactic when selling in consignment sales . Select your sale consignments early . Get them ready far in advance of the sale .
