calves were easier calving and outgained the Gelbvieh, leading to Limousin bulls being utilized exclusively. Eventually limousin cows replaced the F-1 females and today, the herd consists of 60 producing females. Troy and Linda have three children involved in the operation. Lindsey and Tristan currently serve on the NALJA board. Lauren competed at her last Junior National this year and intends to remain involved with the operation. In addition to the cattle operation, Troy is employed with Apache Industrial Services as Director of Operations for the Gulf Coast Region. He is a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, NCBA, Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association, Tangipahoa Parish Cattlemen, LSU Ag Center State Show Advisory Committee, and completed the inaugural class of Louisiana Master Cattlemen. In his spare time, Troy enjoys attending cattle events, hunting and fishing with his family. If elected to serve on the board, Troy will work with fellow breeders to promote and grow the breed. Kevin Ochsner Kevin Ochsner was born and raised on an irrigated farm and cow/ calf operation in Fort Collins, Colo. His Limousin herd began when he used some of the money from his 4-H steers to purchase four half-blood Limousin cows from Dale Runnion in 1976. Throughout his youth, Kevin was actively involved in 4-H, FFA and the National Junior Limousin Association. He served as a State and National FFA Officer and was also a member of the NALJA Board of Directors. While attending college at Colorado State University, Kevin held leadership positions in Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and was a member of the Colorado State Livestock Judging Team earning High Individual Honors at the 1989 National Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest in Louisville. Upon receiving his Agribusiness degree from CSU in 1991, Kevin immediately moved to Indianapolis, Ind. to accept a position with the consulting firm Agribusiness Group. After earning his Masters in Management from Purdue University and becoming a Partner in the Agribusiness Group, he and his wife, Julie, moved back to Colorado in 1998, purchased an irrigated farm/ranch along the South Platte River and began building their family and their dream. In 2014, Kevin began his own consulting practice, Agcellerate, and continues to provide strategic/ marketing consulting, training and keynote speaking services to agribusiness companies and organizations. For the past ten years, Kevin has also served as the host of NCBA’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen, a TV show seen weekly on RFD-TV. In 2005, Kevin and Julie expanded their Limousin operation by purchasing cows from Wulf Limousin. Today, their operation consists of 150 head of registered Limousin and Lim-flex females together with irrigated corn and alfalfa hay. Ochsner Limousin serves as a cooperator herd for Wulf Cattle and markets additional seedstock privately and through state, regional and national shows and sales. Kevin’s wife, Julie, also operates their local beef business, Ochsner Tenderlean Beef. Kevin has been a member of NALF’s Junior Committee and most recently served as co- chair of the 2018 National Junior Limousin Show and Congress planning committee. While the Ochsner family has been fortunate to enjoy some success in the show ring and has developed many strong friendships through those experiences, Kevin’s heart and passion is in LIMOUSIN Today | 25
