NALF Board Member Involved in the Chinese Montana Beef Deal
Fred Wacker of Cross Four Ranch , Miles City , Mont ., went to Beijing for the signing on the Chinese Montana Beef Deal . Wacker is on the North American Limousin Foundation board of directors and chairs the Vision ’ s committee . He also participates on the Nominating and Commercial Marketing committees . After the signing on October 23 , Wacker now has to go out and get Montana ranchers to sign up .
With the $ 300 million deal with the Montana Stock growers Association , Montana ranchers are going to start supplying $ 200 million of beef to JD . com , the third largest online retailer in the world . China plans to directly sell the Montana beef to consumers through this e-commerce platform . This is about 80,000 to 90,000 Montana cattle from 2018-2020 . The agreement includes a $ 100 million packing plant to be built in Montana , construction to begin next spring .
