welcome

Dear Reader

Let me introduce you to issue 5 of the e-Magazine Limited Edition, the thrice yearly publication of the Surrey Sculpture Society. We are proud to communicate our endeavours to the public and our members and we hope that this issue proves to be an interesting, entertaining and inspirational publication again for all those whom it reaches. This issue is overflowing with art, art education and exhibitions since we are nearing the end of the calendar year. It also offers us a glimpse in the lives of some of our individual members, showing how diverse we are as a group.

This issue highlights the exhibitions at the Royal Horticultural Garden, Wisley and the Savill Garden at the Crown Estate; two prestigious venues and beautiful gardens hosting an SSS outdoor sculpture trail. These two trails covered our calendar consecutively from mid August until the beginning of November. In this issue you will find a tour of part of the trails in picture form and if you missed any or both trails this year, you will get a chance to enjoy sculpture in nature at its best next year as both events will feature on our exhibition calendar in 2019.

As I am writing this we are also preparing the last exhibition of the calendar year at the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington - a short but full Sculpture Showcase with demonstrations, workshops, educational lectures for local schools and around 175 pieces of art for all budgets and in all styles and media imaginable.

We enjoyed a fascinating lecture by one of our own members, Lisa Pettibone, in October who captivated her audience with a discourse on Science and Art. This talk features in this issue and I can highly recommend you to watch it.

The Society is looking forward to its 25th anniversary in 2019. From its beginnings with 14 members, the Society has been, and still is, entirely run by committed volunteers - a commendable achievement that we will celebrate in style during the whole of 2019, so please keep following our news on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. After our last show we will ‘retire for the winter.’ Artists will be creating new work and the Committee will prepare the calendar and the festivities for 2019.

We wish you a joyful festive season and hope to welcome you back with our March issue of Limited Edition. In the meantime I leave you with a creative incentive:

Life is short, the art long (Hippocrates)
