Coming Up: Kidz Dayz 2019 Kidz Dayz is perhaps the largest program the Outreach Ministry undertakes each year. The program was conceived out of necessity in 2014 to make available breakfast and lunch during the summer for children who were eligible for the free meals programs at schools in Bayview, Bacliff Kemah and San Leon. Students who have completed K-5th grade are eligible to spend four weeks at a local church under the guidance of Lighthouse staff and volunteers. Since its inception, more than 500 children have participated in Kidz Dayz. Roughly 70 children daily enjoy a free breakfast and lunch while learning new skills, like dancing and martial arts, or traveling on field trips to The Aquarium or Bayou Wildlife Park. A variety of special guests, such as artists, conflict resolution professionals, fashion experts and sports figures, are invited to share their professional knowledge with our Kidz Dayz participants. Since the last day of our 2018 program, Outreach Manager Marissa Reiter has been working on making Kidz Dayz 2019 even more exciting, educational, and engaging for the kids of our community. She had this to say about this summer’s “festivities.” “This year I am really excited about our theme. It is very out of the box, but we are going to have a blast with it. This year, we’re going to celebrate Christmas in July! We want to teach the children in our community about the true meaning of Christmas and where the resurrection story began. We are already dreaming up so many fun and exciting ideas, but we need your help to make it all happen! Even if you are not able to volunteer in person, you can still be a part of Kidz Dayz by donating candy for gingerbread houses, or Christmas gifts valued $5 or less which the kids will bring home for their parents. We want to show the kids the joy that comes from giving and not receiving!” Kidz Dayz is a monumental undertaking for Lighthouse and approximately 100 volunteers will be needed to provide support. Kidz Dayz 2019 will be held July 8 through August 2. Lighthouse Christian Ministries is making plans now for the annual summer camp. If you would like to volunteer your time, make a financial contribution, a donation of snack items or supplies for crafts or other activities, contact Marissa Reiter at email@example.com or call 281-339-3033, ext. 301 for more details.
