LLLPLATFORM - ACTIVITY REPORT 2016
WHAT WE DO
RAISING AWARENESS OF LLL
The LLLAwards aim to celebrate outstanding initiatives in favour of pushing
lifelong learning policy forward, building inclusive societies and making
lifelong learning a reality for all. The Award celebrates educational practices
from all over Europe that can demonstrate the use of creative and inclusive
learning methods with outstanding results and the potential to be replicated
and/or of inspiring others. The Award is not limited to a particular sector, since
the Platform believes lifelong learning covers education and training across all
ages and in all areas of life be it formal, non-formal or informal and shall enable
citizens’ emancipation as a framework for personal development and well-
being and citizens’ full participation in society in its civic, social and economic
dimensions.

The 6th edition of the Lifelong Learning Week
(#LLLWeek16) was held from 10 to 13 October in
Brussels, gathering circa 200 policy-makers and educational
stakeholders representing civil society organisations,
academics and decision-makers, highlighting the key role
lifelong learning plays in facing major societal challenges
nowadays. The LLLWeek has over time become a milestone
in the European education agenda, thanks to the support of
civil society actors and Members of the European Parliament.

This year, we turned the spotlight on what brings them
together and what makes education one of the most powerful
tools we possess to build the inclusive societies that are
the basis for a democratic Europe. The LLLWeek2016 was
thus organised around three main strands: Learning to live
together, 21st Century Skills and Flexible learning pathways.
For the first time, the LLLWeek was organised in
partnership with the European Youth Forum, merging
with the former Youth Education Week, to show our
commitment to joining forces with young people and
youth organisations. The 2016 LLLWeek was supported
by the Youth Intergroup and the Lifelong Learning Interest
Group.
“

Collaboration between Civil Society Organisations
such as the Lifelong Learning Platform and
the European Youth Forum and the European
Parliament is crucial in order to boost innovation
in policy-making and vitality of the public debate
in the education field. We must stand for a
comprehensive acknowledgement and a strong
improvement of all sectors of formal, non-formal
and informal learning.”
MEP Brando Benifei
The 2016 Awards were composed of 3 Winners and 10 Inspiring
Practices, who were rewarded during the Ceremony that took place on
11 October in Brussels.
The LLLWeek
