GR July 2017 Life Grid 'Giving Local Business a Global Voice.' Janie Lin - Local Editor About Me by Janie Lin Janie Here in the local Grand Junction/Montrose Colorado area there are some fabulous places to hang out and enjoy some very delicious food, and great service. One of my favorites is Horsefly Brewery. It’s a locally owned business that offers locally grown food on their menu. Horsefly is a brewery/pub/restaurant. They are actually the oldest brewery in Montrose. Their motto is “No Crap On Tap”. Horsefly has a consistent daily special from Monday Spud nights, where you can load your potato up any way you like, to Wednesday Open Mic Night where you can enjoy dollar tacos, and then Saturday is live music with no cover charge ever. If you aren’t into alcohol, you can get homemade root beer as well!! If you are desiring a fantastically sloppy burger….I highly recommend the Bavarian with Grass fed beef. It’s housed on a pretzel bun and loaded with their signature Tabano beer cheese sauce/dip, and then what ever else you choose….sauted onions, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes…...Yumm!! If you are looking for a more outdoorsy approach in the area, there is a plethora of places to hike and hang out for a refreshing getaway when your mind needs clearing and recentering. A couple of my favorites are SilverJack Reservoir and Yankee Boy Basin. SilverJack is about an hour drive from Montrose on the way to Blue Mesa, and the dirt county road provides many stopping places to get out and hike around before you actually get to SilverJack. Don’t worry….Everything is marked with wooden signs! Just keep going! My favorite time to visit Yankee Boy Basin is in the spring when all the flowers are blooming. The road to get there is an interesting and sometimes one-lane dirt road….once you get past all that it is so worth it! There are ruins of old mines, waterfalls, jeep trails and places to just sit and relax. Often when I was in high school, and even after, I would go up there by myself and find a cozy spot to sit and journal. Yankee Boy is located just outside of Ouray before you head up Red Mountain Pass. Janie Lin is a Business Alchemist and a Wealth Consciousness Revolutionary.
