Chilling Out
by Karla Erovick
I am so excited to be part of the Life Grid community as a local editor. This month, I’d like to share with you some of my favorite ways and places
to chill out.
We are so lucky to have hundreds of wineries and vineyards a short drive away. As a wine enthusiast, one of my favorite ways to spend an
afternoon is to visit local wineries. It’s fun to explore the vineyards and to gaze upon the vines in all stages of their yearly cycle. While there is
something magical about visiting vineyards, and tasting wine where it was grown, it’s also fun to visit the abundance of tasting rooms that
abound in McMinnville and a short drive away. No matter how many times I have been wine tasting, I always learn something new and interest-
ing.
In our area, we grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, ingredients in sparkling wine (champagne), so I’ve made it my mission to seek out local
sparkling wine producers and there are a lot. In downtown McMinnville R. Stuart Wine Bar has two that I particularly like - Bubbly and their Rosé
d’ Or. This is a fun place to pop in for a glass of bubbles when shopping or running errands at the local shops or to meet a few friends and catch
up.
We also have some fun local coffee shops like Flag & Wire Coffee, in a renovated old building that blends modern style with historic elements.
Coffee is made with care and they have a nice selection of pastries. It’s also a great place for a meeting or to get some work done.
On 3rd Street, our charming main street, you can window shop or indulge in some retail therapy. We have a variety of restaurants serving local
and international cuisine. There are so many great choices that it can be hard to choose; you might try flipping a coin because whatever you select
is going to be delicious. We have cuisine from the Pacific Northwest, Italy, France, Mexico, Spain, New Orleans, Thailand, and Latin American,
and the list goes on. We are passionate about good food from fresh, locally grown ingredients.
If you are looking for live music, you are in luck. On Thursday nights during the summer bands perform outdoors on the plaza. The last Friday of
each month Walnut City Wine Works has live music, wine, and patio seating with rotating food trucks providing delicious street food at reasonable
prices while you enjoy a glass of wine or beer with friends. If beer is more your speed, we also have our share of craft beer. Golden Valley Brewery
offers a selection of house-made beer and food with a choice of indoor or patio seating while enjoying a refreshing pint.
When I feel like pampering, Kona Makai Nail Spa is a great choice for a manicure and pedicure. From the moment, you walk through their door,
you enter a sanctuary of peace and calm. I always leave so much more relaxed and confident knowing my nails and toes look great. I heard one
customer call it the “happy feet “treatment and I’d have to agree.
Come chill out in McMinnville this summer!
