To prevent water from being contaminated after an oil spill i think all oil tankers
would have to carry a lot of sponges for the oil because a group of scientists
developed a sponge made from carbon nanotubes, which can absorb about 100
times their weight in oil. The flexible foam is hydrophobic and keeps afloat at all
times. 99% of its volume is air. In addition, iron nanoparticles can be added, which
would facilitate their collection in the sea by magnets.
