The captain got closer to Ismail and looked him straight into the eyes as if he was piercing right through them. “What do you have for me in exchange for the ride?” Ismail showed some money, “I hope it’s enough,” the captain seemed angry and displeased, “you’ll need more than that,” and then he looked at me and saw my gold necklace. He grabbed it and said, “that would do.” I wanted to take my necklace back but I was afraid he would refuse to take us on board. A few tears came down from my eyes. Ismail saw me weeping, took my both hands and squeezed them tightly. “I am so sorry you had to go through this.” I looked at him and said nothing but smiled.

The captain shouted to get on the ship and hide in the corner of the cargo.

I was lying with him looking at the stars in the pale moonlight. Ismail noticed that I am starting to cry again.
