livinghistory Long before the Whoop-Up Drive Bridge was ever built, its future site was in fact a natural crossing, used for generations by those in the area who had to cross the river. At this natural crossing site, Nicholas Sheran constructed a ferry crossing in the 1870s, and a ferry stayed in operation at that site until the highway bridge, now Highway 3, was constructed in 1890.
