for someone who doesn’t have a
team already,” Michael explains.
Although the number of sports
leagues offered by the club is
growing, social events continue to
be its backbone. These events are
what attracted Andrea Hertz to the
club’s offerings. “I thought it was
a great way to get out and meet
people,” she says. “It’s been beyond
my expectations. For being all on his
own, the activities Patrick is putting
together are amazing.”
Through the club, Andrea says
she’s participated in a fundraising
walk for MS, winter hikes, the “Taste
of…” food series at the Multicultural
Centre, as well as fi tness training
at the YMCA. While most of the
club’s 100-plus members are in their
mid-20s, Andrea says the club has
something for everyone. “It’s a way
to stay active and meet people in
a safe and social environment and
do cool things,” she says. “It’s all
accessible according to your budget
and physical abilities. I’m in my 50s
and a lot of my other friends are
starting to join now.”
As the club gears up for its fi rst
summer, Patrick says the biggest
challenge continues to be scheduling
gym and fi eld times. However, he
hopes to continue to build on the
progress so far. “It’s been an evolving
process based on feedback from
the members, but ultimately I see
it being the go-to for people in
Lethbridge looking to connect with
others and play rec sports in a very
social atmosphere, and where you
can experience something that you
might have an interest in but maybe
wouldn’t normally try,” Patrick
explains. “No one is going to judge
you; we’re just here for fun.”
