The # YQLChallenge provides resources for people to try as many or as few of the 150 possible sports activities offered in our city as they wish by learning how and where to do them , and then encourages participants to share their experiences through social media and spread the word .

as spectators as well ,” Susan says , adding that , “ You don ’ t have to be a parent to get involved in sports on a volunteer level . Many groups are looking for people who have an interest in the sport but can also lend other talents for things like administration and fundraising . You often have a handful of people doing the majority of the work , so if we can help local organizations lighten their load by getting new people hooked , that ’ s great .”
To this end , and also as part of the challenge , the Sport Council is encouraging local residents to log volunteer hours by helping out with local sporting events in celebration of Canada ’ s 150 years , and

With so many opportunities and free resources to try something new , volunteer , or cheer on one of our local teams , it ’ s never been easier to enter the world of sports . Regardless of age and ability , there ’ s always something new to discover . “ Part of it is to celebrate the successes too ,” Susan says . “ You can still start a sport later in life and achieve success on a grand scale – it ’ s never too late .”
My muscles might be old and tired , but they ’ re already itching for another adventure after being punished at the boxing gym . Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks ? With hula-hooping up next on my list , I guess I ’ m going to find out .
