FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Lester Prairie fi refi ghters put the needs of
others fi rst on a regular basis.
In 2018, the department responded to 153
calls for assistance, expending 1,850 man-
hours. Most of the calls (92) were medical-
related.
There were 13 fi re calls in 2018.
Other requests included motor vehicle
crashes (15), service calls (six), false alarms
(eight), hazardous conditions with no fi re
(three), and good intent calls (16).
Following is the breakdown by district for
those calls:

The department also has auxiliary members,
who need to be employed in the city of Lester
Prairie and be active members of another
qualifi ed fi re department.
Currently, these are Dan Ruschmeier of
the New Germany Fire Department and Dan
Kroells of the Green Isle Fire Department.
Lester Prairie’s fi re department is always
accepting applications for new membership.
People age 18 and older who are in good
physical condition are eligible to apply. There
is no maximum age limit, but fi refi ghters have
to pass a physician’s exam to ensure they are in
