WINTER 2017
mdlsr.ca
The MD offers several different options for residents to place their vote, including
advance polling stations and several convenient voting locations. Specific dates,
locations and other details will be announced closer to the election date. The MD’s
Reeve and six Councillors work to ensure decisions are in alignment with community
needs and interests. Council essentially functions as a board of directors for the
community at large; setting a strategic direction, and then designing policies and
budgets to achieve that direction.
Any MD resident wishing to contribute their time, energy and acumen to the MD is
welcome to campaign for the position of Reeve or Councillor in the upcoming election.
There are a few basic municipal election rules and criteria to keep in mind, including age,
duration of residency, outstanding tax debt and the like. Also, please be aware that the
term of office lasts for four years and comes with different layers of responsibility. For
those considering throwing their hat in the ring, an official nomination package will be
made available to candidates at the MD administration building and on the municipal
website later this year, www.mdlsr.ca.
Whether you stand up and run for office or simply get out and cast your vote, local
government provides a number of different opportunities for you to participate in the
planning, management and growth of your own community. Remember that your voice
matters, and your participation makes a difference!
