Make Your Mark This Election Year

MAKE A MEANINGFUL MARK ON THE FUTURE OF THE MD THIS OCTOBER
In his essay Consider Municipal Politics , Brian Clarke observes that “ Municipal governance matters far more in our daily lives than people imagine ... the stores where we shop , the neighbourhoods where we live … and the many services we use without even thinking about them are often controlled in some way by municipal government .” While ‘ big issue politics ’ such as the carbon tax or Trans Mountain Pipeline tend to be immovable objects , it only takes a small group of ratepayers to impact decisions and effect meaningful change on a municipal level .
Unlike a federal or provincial election , municipal politics in Alberta are not party politics ; it ’ s one eligible voter , one vote . Each vote counts for the candidate you want to see elected to Council from your Division . A surprisingly small number of votes will often sway results . With October 2017 marking the next municipal election , Lesser Slave River residents are reminded that they are an integral part of the region ’ s governance process . As such , all eligible voters are encouraged to get out and cast their ballot for a Reeve and Councillor who represent their views , visions and values .
