Golden Glades Health Center
In July of this year, Planned Parenthood
of South, East and North Florida announced
the opening of our Golden Glades health
center. This 11,000 square foot health
center provides a new Miami hub for
Planned Parenthood’s health care,
education and advocacy work and it
couldn’t come at a better time.
Miami-Dade continues to be challenged
by some of the poorest health outcomes in
Florida. Miami has the highest HIV infection
rate in the country; an increased risk of
unplanned teen pregnancies for blacks and
Hispanics; black women in Miami-Dade are
dying at a higher rate from breast cancer
and cervical cancer than women of other
races; and Miami has the highest rate of
uninsured individuals in the state.
Our state of the art health center offers
the community the crucial full range of
reproductive health services: lifesaving
cancer screenings, clinical breast exams,
testing and treatment for sexually
transmitted infections, birth control, HIV
testing, pregnancy tests, education and
abortion services. Planned Parenthood is
committed to ensuring that women have
accurate information about, and access to,
all of their health care options.
The Golden Glades health center also
allows us to advance our mission thanks to
the leadership of Chief Medical Officer, Dr.
Christopher Estes. Dr. Estes is the former
Medical Director of Reproductive Health
Services at the University of Miami Miller
School of Medicine. His expertise includes
advanced surgical skills in gynecology and
obstetrics and providing care for
underserved populations. With this
specialized skill set paired with a facility that
offers patient-centered care, Planned
Parenthood is now able to expand services
to include vasectomies and Essure (a
non-invasive method of female
sterilization), in addition to our existing high
quality, affordable, non-judgmental services.
It is our privilege to be part of the Golden
Glades community in Northern Miami-Dade
County. It is our goal that our increased
footprint will positively impact the residents
of Miami-Dade and bring us all closer to
creating the healthiest generation ever.
