A lack of understandin may be demotivation as the learner is not actually required to understand why they should do something.

Trial and error learning may lead to the wrong technique being used.

The learner may not know how to react when the stimulus is slightly different from those already experienced.. Due to their lack of understanding the performer may not know which response to use.

This form of learning implies that for every skill or performance situation a stimulus-response link has to be created.

Beginners to not react well to negative reinforcement and the use of punishment hardly seems appropriate in a skill learning situation.

Another aspect of Operant Conditioning is Shaping. Shaping is where an action which is closer to the desired action is rewarded by positive reinforcement but an action which is further away from the desired acrion recieves negative einforcement. This results in the learner radually moving towards the desired action.
