Free courses for adults*
English and Maths
Our learners tell us that studying English and maths as an adult is a life-changing experience.
As well as nationally recognised adult qualifications you will gain confidence, make new
contacts and talk about local people, places and issues and, if you want it, get advice on
career choices.
GCSE - Grade 4 (old grade C) and above is required for
many jobs and apprenticeships and to access further/higher
education options including nursing and PGCEs.
Move On - Level 1 and 2 Functional Skills qualifications for
employment, to return to learning or to prepare for further/
higher education, apprenticeships and GCSE.
Get On - Entry 2-3 English and Maths qualifications to brush
up on the basics and gain confidence.
Get Started - Basic reading, writing or maths skills for those
who may need additional support.
ESOL -English for Speakers of Other Languages courses run in the city centre and at Acomb
Explore. Charges may apply to these courses, depending on your circumstances.
Keep Up - For parents/carers or those working with children. Master the methods used in
primary schools today and gain an up to date qualification.
