Spring 2018

Enjoy The Journey By : Kelly Holland

The Spring always reminds me of new beginnings . Everything is stirring with new life , and the air is fragrant with possibilities . Often , it ’ s difficult for us to allow ourselves to embrace change , but this time of year is a poignant metaphor for our own seasons . After we have experienced the doldrums of depression , loss , or failure we once again have the opportunity to initiate our own personal “ spring ” and begin anew .
What wellness / health goals did you set for yourself last year that you did not accomplish ? Don ’ t consider it as a failure , but rather take time to sit down and write out your goals , and then list what you felt kept you from achieving them . Learn from the obstacles , and discern where you need to change focus , or rework strategy . Sometimes we have to just admit that we didn ’ t commit ourselves fully to the process and ask for guidance and strength to see it through .
I am a firm believer that you can only be defeated when you stop trying . I have told my sons to always let failure be a surprise . In other words , don ’ t expect to fail . The Bible says that the Lord comes to give us an “ expected ” end ( Jeremiah 29:11 ). Knowing this , we should always align our expectations with the “ thoughts of peace and not evil ” that He says He has towards us . Success isn ’ t a destination , it ’ s a journey . Knowing this , we can allow ourselves to enjoy the process as we go from season to season .
