When Ted Williams, whom many consider to be the greatest hitter of all time, retired from baseball he had a lifetime batting average of .344. He hit the ball and got on base over 3 out of every 10 times at bat. This could be looked at two different ways. Either he blew it 70% of the time, or he succeeded 30% of the time. Baseball sees 30% of the time as a winning statistic. Aren’t you glad that pilots and surgeons do not have the same standard of 30% accuracy? In the process of greatness there are many losses along the way. Failure is part of the process of becoming. Where there has been no adversity there can be no development. The good news is how you handle your feelings and emotions is totally within your control. Your brain is in service to your mind just as your mind is in service to you. By all means use your brain to study and learn so you can thrive academically and professionally. But you must also develop the mind so you can grow in character and spirit. What should you do first in order to train your mind? Yes, you can train your mind just like you train your body. Here are a few recommendations: 1. Guard the threshold of your mind- This may be a doctrine you are not familiar with. Think about it- Shouldn’t you go out of your way to protect your mind from trash, harmful, unproductive and detrimental input?
