Most of his athletes towered over him. Coach Wooden was, by all conventional standards, an unimposing, slightly built man. Yet his strength came from his humility and faith in God, attributes that were illuminated by his unwavering vision to the betterment of anyone who came across his path. He was in service to humanity. Being a leader is not always about being right. It’s not always about being the loudest or the most aggressive. It’s also not always about winning. Being a leader is about being in service. It’s about commitment. It’s about humility. Parents are the foremost authority figures in a child’s life. As such you should learn to monitor what you think, what you say and what you do in the presence of your child. You have direct access to the mind of your child and you will influence the direction of their character whether you know it or not. Parents need to examine why you have your child in this program. Is it about you or about them? Are you vicariously living through them in this activity? Are your expectations and goals unrealistic? The answers to these questions could very well indicate a fractured or debilitating relationship between you and your child. Baseball should be taught to develop something higher than what you had before. Is that happening? In our program there will be plenty of opportunities to show leadership skills that will leave a lasting impression on your child. You may not even realize how what you learn in this program, will help change how differently your child responds to you. 7
