Boring, he is not. From humble beginnings he designed and built O Chateau with his college rugby buddy, Nicolas Paradis; wrote a blog eventually becoming the best-selling book,” Stuff Parisians Like”; hosted a travel TV series, of course, about wine; and taught wine classes in several countries. His second book, “Into Wine – An Invitation to Pleasure”, recently released and climbing the best sellers list, speaks about what makes a great wine? It’s terroir, “the essence of a place – its signature. It is what’s unique, non-reproducible and singular about a particular vineyard”. Like wine, local communities have terroir. It’s their culture evolving for centuries yet now at an alarming rate, cultural terroir is being lost to mega corporations such as McDonald’s, Starbucks and H&M, while local proprietors are put out of business. Local terroir will be lost forever unless we support local communities, their diversity and individual culture.
